Welcome to March! The first day of spring is March 21! And, of course, St. Patrick's Day is March 17. Two great reasons to celebrate with GREEN. So, let me show you an easy peezy GREEN tea party.
For this month, we are skipping the scone course. We know we all love scones, but we are eager to get outside and enjoy this beautiful pre-spring day! Although if I had chosen to make scones today, I would have made green onion, cheddar scones to match my green theme!
On today's menu to tie in with St. Patrick's Day is toasted corned beef with Swiss cheese on rye triangles.
Recipe:
Rye bread slices, cut off edge of crust
Salad dressing, either jarred salad dressing or Thousand Island
Sliced deli corned beef, the thinner the better
Sliced Swiss cheese
Cut a slice of rye bread in half in 2 triangles. Spread salad dressing on outside of each half.
Place one triangle dressing side down in heated skillet.
Layer on thin corned beef and a slice of Swiss cheese to fit onto the triangle.
Place second triangle on top with dressing side out. Heat until bottom triangle is toasted to liking.
Carefully turn using a spatula. Perhaps even use a butter knife or second spatula to keep sandwich layered together as it is flipped.
Toast opposite triangle until toasted to liking, cheese is melted, and beef is heated through.
Enjoy on a pretty flowered plate!
The traditional Reuban sandwich is this plus a layer of sauerkraut. For a tea party, however, sauerkraut can be messy. Add sauerkraut at your own discretion.
To make this an easy peezy tea party, I actually bought green cupcakes.
Fun tip: Place your sweet dessert course into a teacup and have your guests use a fork to eat it instead of picking up. Dessert is savored and lasts longer this way!
And since this is a GREEN easy peezy tea party, what better tea to enjoy than GREEN TEA!

Now, some info about green tea. Black tea leaves are tea leaves that have been slowly cooked, and that's what makes them black. Green tea leaves have not been cooked, so to say. Green tea is a more delicate tea and generally green teas have a more earthy, grassy flavor.
Major tip when it comes to tea - any tea: have your water the proper temperature and steep for the instructed time.
Let me say that again - have your water the proper temperature and steep for the instructed time.
Hotter or longer is not better when it comes to tea. Water temperature for green tea is generally 185 degrees and it should steep for generally 1 - 2 minutes. Boiling water is too hot for green tea. Steeping longer than instructions specify will make it taste bitter, not better.
Green tea is lighter in color after brewing than black tea. Macha is very, very green after adding to hot water because it is actually ground up green tea leaves.
For my Green Easy Peezy Tea Party Today - the tea is Jasmine Pearls - a very flowery green tea that goes perfect with this sunny day!
Add some green flowers, green napkins, and Sip and Enjoy with those you love! That's the most important part!
Happy March!
Now is the time to grab a book and your favorite cup of tea.
